Job Summary

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor (RS), the Recreation Rangers (RR) is responsible for the whole guest recreational activities (apart from excursion by diving and water sports partner). This position is also responsible for the Recreation/CoolZone daily operation and interacting with guests consistent with 5-star standards. RR is an ambassador of the resort and the management. They are responsible for maintaining consistently high standards of the operation and guest service, ensuring that all the communications related to the guests and to the resort, both external and internal, are actioned speedily and efficiently in accordance with the specified standards. RR is responsible for the smooth functioning of all JAM orientated leisure activities of the resort including the organisation of specific leisure activities and events as well as the presentation of all associated guest spaces. Their main role is to create and curate exceptional guest experiences specifically with children in mind and adhere to all safety related standards associated with children’s facilitation. RR maintains an exceptional relationship with guests and associates, is active around the resort, ensuring that all guests are satisfied, and all their expectations are fulfilled. Precision, meticulousness, and punctuality are mandatory for the position of RR as befitting a guest facing Supervisory level position.

Responsibilities and duties for this position shall include but not limited to the following areas and activities. At management discretion, direction may be given for tasks outside the scope of work described

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handling Recreation Pavilion, CoolZone, Tennis Court, Futsal Ground (only when needs to be prepared for guest activities), Badminton, Indoor and outdoor Sports Activities, treasure hunts and scavenger hunts and treasure bottles.
  • Executes Resort Entertainment for all age levels (0 to 16 for children and above 16 for adults).
  • Facilitate children of different nationalities and ensure language coverage of all key markets and all health and safety related coverage such as childcare/paediatric care certification, first responder including CPR, first aid and water safety certification.
  • Helps with any recreation booking or requests (tennis, badminton court, futsal, giant chess board, cinema, golf, beach activities etc.).
  • Facilitates the setup, maintain and cleaning of the Recreation Pavilion including the outdoor games area, Tennis Court, Badminton Court, CoolZone, cleaning and proper handling of sports equipment before and after guest usage (tennis rackets & balls, fresh towels, water etc.)
  • Maintain the inventory of the facility, sports equipment, and tools of both Recreation Pavilion and CoolZone.
  • Is ready to attend and actively participate with guests for any leisure, sport, and CoolZone activity.
  • To be aware of the individual responsibility to always handle all resort properties and equipment with utmost care.
  • Keep all leisure guests engaged with day/evening and night entertainment as required.
  • Assist in the design and approval of the daily/weekly/monthly recreation and leisure program.
  • Ensures that JA Manafaru standards are always followed.
  • Is fully familiar with JA Manafaru brand value and core competencies and follow these standards of service as they apply to the all the sub-departments.
  • Provides courteous, efficient, and professional service always.
  • Ensures to attend all on-the-job training for their development.
  • Attend meetings on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Ensure to checks the duty check lists are completed and follows up on any outstanding tasks as assigned accordingly.
  • Ensure all necessary policies and procedures and SOPs essential for daily operations are followed by them, vital for them to carry out their duties in providing an excellent guest service.
  • Maintains a high guest service focus, for oneself. Ensures that all guests are happy and that their expectations are exceeded whilst providing a congenial and secure environment.
  • Attends and responds to all guest comments, suggestions, and complaints in a constructive and professional manner.
  • Follows up immediately for any guest complaint, as well as taking ownership on guest inquiries.
  • Gives feedback of the operations and concerns to the RS.
  • Has a thorough and up to date knowledge of the resort facilities, products, and services on offers.
  • Ensures presence of self at the Recreation Pavilion, CoolZone, ensuring that inquiries and needs from guests are attended according to standards.
  • Ensures their presence on arrival at the jetty “meet and greet” service for all families with Children.
  • Meets parents of Children at the resort and carries out at least 2 quality checks with parents during their stay, as a minimum requirement. (This task should be carried out during the absence of direct reporting supervisor/manager)
  • Assists in all phases of recreation programs, cost controls where applicable.
  • Plans and execute a comprehensive pre-planned recreation activity schedule, including sports activities, and special events. Have direct responsibility for all programs and events.
  • Assist identifying new activities and excursions to be implemented at the resort.
  • Co-ordinates with Front Office for related activities.
  • Handle and ensure Recreation Pavilion, CoolZone, Children’s swimming pool operations and maintenance. Monitor and request for maintenance for all equipment.
  • Creates an inventory for all the toys, games, recreational equipment, books, costumes present etc. in Recreation pavilion, Cool Zone, Tennis Court, Futsal Ground (only when needs to be prepared for guests matches), Badminton, Indoor and outdoor Sports Activities, or other recreational areas.
  • Create and curate sustainability, environmental, marine and CSR related activities in conjunction with other responsible parties e.g. Parley for the Ocean, our in-house Marine Biologist.
  • Takes direction from supervisor/manager, regarding operational issues.
  • Keeps courteous, professional relationships with suppliers, colleagues and third parties as befitting a JA ambassador.
  • Constantly seek ways to improve operational procedures and execute them.
  • Maintains the safety rules of the resort in the Recreation Pavilion, CoolZone, Tennis Court, Futsal Ground (only when needs to be prepared for guest activities), Badminton, Indoor and outdoor Sports Activities area and reports immediately to the RS for any maintenance and safety issues which may arise.

Experience and Skills

University Degree or equivalent – preferably in hospitality and or child services.

  • 2+ years of experience in the industry.
  • Health and safety related childcare/paediatric care certification, first responder including CPR, first aid and water safety certification.
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
  • Flexibility with working hours
  • The ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on client and guest’s services is essential.
  • The ability to work closely with a team in budgeting, cost controls and monthly reporting is critical.
  • Must possess supervisory and management skills to communicate and express ideas and directives clearly to employees.
  • Must possess computational ability and computer skills.
  • Ability to study, analyse and interpret complex activities and/or information to improve new practices or develop new approaches.
  • Ability to make decisions with only general policies and procedures available for guidance.
  • Walking and standing are required in a regular working day. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
  • Must be able to actively keep up with active children and have the physical ability to actively partake in physically demanding activities organised for guests and their children.
  • Must have first-hand knowledge and experience of all activities offered by the resort.
  • The ability to swim without the use of any swimming aids, will be greatly advantageous.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the resort on a timely basis.
  • Experience: At least 2 years’ experience at a supervisory level in a Recreation Department
  • Advance - Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft, PowerPoint).
  • Advance – English communication skills, written and verbal. Additional Languages is plus
