Head Barista

Local sites of interest include the Grand Mosque, Opera House and Amouage Perfume Factory.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

Coffee and Operational procedures.

·Responsible for quality control of coffee and for the coffee counter.

·Approves the requisition of products and other necessary food supplies.

·Organize the ordering of coffee.

·Awareness of Muscat coffee trends and local competition.

·Overseeing the operational set up.

·Serve correct food and beverage portions in accordance with serving times, ensuring the counter looks fresh, inviting and presentable.

·Provide suitable suggestions to customers, ensuring you have complete product knowledge, allergen awareness, aware of all promotions and can maximize revenue through sales.

·Restock drink fridges and counters as required and inform the shift supervisor of low stock, as required.

·Minimize breakages and losses.

·Adhere to ‘Opening & Closing’ procedures.

Guest experience

·Provide, maintain and improve good customer service, leading by example.

·Always support, maintain and encourage brand standard.

Health and safety:

·Practice good health and safety procedures at all times highlight any operational problems to the duty manager immediately.

·Maintain a high level of cleanliness in your immediate working area and strictly adhere to cleaning rota schedule.

·Be able to use and clean all machinery in use in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines, following appropriate training.

·Ensure you are training new employees in high standards of cleanliness for the coffee machinery.

·Knowledge of evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency, lead as necessary.

·Comply with all Security and Health & Safety policies.

Cash handling and administration:

·Ensure correct handling of cash.

·Ensure a sufficient supply of change held and cash levels kept to a minimum.

·Ensure food / drink items are entered correctly into the till Head Barista/Café Team Leader.

·Train new joiners to operate the tills.

Team performance and personal development

·Undertake all new starters’ initial training, including barista training.

·Undertake all new starters’ department induction.

·Build a strong working relationship with the Kitchen team.

Nature and scope of the job:

In this role you will be working directly with our customers, providing information about the food, coffee and beverages on offer. You will need to demonstrate the highest levels of customer service and have a positive attitude in everything you do. You will need to fully understand and perform all aspects of your job as detailed above. IC Muscat will encourage and provide an opportunity to gain experience and insight to working behind and in front of the scenes. Your development is important to us and objectives are set at your appraisal or one-to-one meetings and will assist you in your development within your role.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

To be effective in this role you will need to demonstrate knowledge of the following, including formal training where appropriate:

·At least two year+ experience as a Barista with excellent coffee knowledge.

·Be highly organized and a forward-thinking person, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.

·Be able to anticipate a client’s needs.

·Demonstrate a real attention to detail and excellent timekeeping.

·Deliver excellent customer service.

·Possess clear verbal and written communication skills.

·A team player with an interest in people, who enjoys working with others within a large and varied organization.
