Job Description

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Plans, directs, controls and coordinates activities of all laundry operations and personnel to ensure the efficient and economical processing of the Laundry operation. Ensures guest/staff laundry and linen are completed as per hotel standards and delivered on time. Promotes a helpful and professional image to the customer and give full co-operation to any customer requiring assistance with a prompt caring and helpful attitude, in turn enhance customer satisfaction. Gives cooperation to any colleague requiring assistance in a prompt caring and helpful manner. To be flexible in assisting in other areas of the hotel in response to the business and customer needs. Gives full cooperation to the staff in charge of the department in the absence of Executive Housekeeper. Maintains regular and effective communication with your Team at all levels by holding daily departmental briefing sessions. To also be available to attend hotel meetings as and when required. Carries out quality training and systematic, professional manner to meet the needs of the business. To assist the executive housekeeper in the development of others within your team. Plans the Labor resource effectively to meet the service criteria set for the Department encompassing training, supervision, and forecasting in line with the Hotel business needs. Creates an environment which promotes employee morale and encourages the Team to have pride in their Department with a high level of commitment Appraises all employees under your control at least six months using the guidelines provided. Delivers the products and Departmental Service Standard to a consistently high standard. Keeps open lines of communications with sister and competitive hotels in the area. Positively promotes sales awareness within the Department and maximize sales opportunities. Controls all operating costs within the area within the standards set. Identifies and reports maintenance requirement hazards in the workplace and  follows through defects. Complies with statutory and legal requirement for fire, health and safety, licensing and employment. Ensures that all members of your department are also aware of these requirements and are working in accordance with them. Communicates with Executive housekeeper on day-to-day basis. Coordinates the day-to-day linen requirements of outlets and any special events and promotional activities from the food and Beverage Director. Directs, coordinates and participates in activities of the laundry personnel. Plans and schedules the daily work assignment of the staff, thus ensuring to meet the Hotel and guest requirements. Ensures  availability of fresh linen for Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and uniforms as per requirements. Prepares a monthly production report. Attends guest complaints, request and enquires. In case of complaints communicate same to the Executive housekeeper and Duty Manager. Examines all items when necessary and determine the proper procedure in processing. Conducts on the Job training and keep proper records. Inspects the quality of all finished items to ensure that proper formula, methods and procedures are followed. Attends daily Housekeeping communication briefings and bring up if any departmental problems before the morning executive meeting. Ensures and maintains a safe and secure environment. Ensures that the par stocks of guest laundry supplies and chemicals are maintained and are stored in safe place. Meets regularly with Engineering and Laundry departments to ensure smooth flow of supplies and repair work. Responsible for guestrooms linen inventories and assists with Food and Beverage linen inventories. Prepares annual linen budget basing the calculation on quantity in inventory and linen losses. Supervises and arranges the taking of physical inventories at the frequency determined by Management. Prepares annual Laundry (FF&E) and Operating Equipment budget in consultation with Management. Maintains linen room and repair services. Makes recommendation to Management for modernization of equipment, methods or supplies. Works closely with Accounts departments in order to keep expenses within monthly forecasts.
