Director of Sales - Convention Centre
We are seeking a senior, very strong, proactive specialist for a magnificent, architectural showpiece which encompasses a state of the art multi-functional Convention Centre right in the heart of a unique location in the Middle East.
It is absolutely essential that the successful candidate is someone with a demonstrable background in proactive sales role with an excellent knowledge of the diverse international “MICE” segment, especially in working with large group movement. They will have worked in the international market with an in-depth understanding of the clients, the global comp set, the total negotiation/sales cycle processes and lead-in/contract times. Whilst Middle East experience would be desirable, it is more likely that the right person is currently based in Europe, Australia, Asia or North America.
The client is seeking someone who is preferably currently working in a Convention/Congress Centre or as DOS MICE/Association in a very large, luxury convention hotel. Alternatively, they may consider a senior Sales Director within a DMC/Convention Bureau. The Convention Centre is targeting: international, regional and local conferences, international Association events, exhibitions, workshops and social events.
Facilities include a ballroom with built-in stage accommodating up to 3000 people, generously appointed VIP suites, majestic terraces, full support service – both technically (including translation booths, plasma screens, video conferencing etc) to the dedicated Event Co-ordinator throughout the event. The team will also work closely with the organisers regarding spouse/add on programmes, registration, airport meet & greet etc. It is a top quality, luxurious ‘convention village’.
The focus will be to create an effective awareness of the destination, promoting the usp’s (including interesting add-on/post convention opportunities). They will need to work closely with travel and immediate hotel partners to sell the concept and location. This will include building strong relationships with the national Tourism & Convention Bureau, partner airlines and DMC’S. Therefore, it is essential that the person will be strategic, target driving, with excellent communication and presentation skills. They will be dynamic, outgoing and have sound business acumen combined with an ability to build good relationships and develop trust with both clients and partners.
There will be extensive travelling to key trade shows globally as well as working closely with the company’s regional and global sales teams to drive business.
This is an ex-pat role: the client is offering a competitive basic net of tax with additional benefits including housing allowance, medical, annual flights to point of departure, bonus, pension etc. We are inviting interested candidates to submit their salary expectations.
